Rochester, MN  (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police have made an arrest in connection to last week’s carjacking in a southeast neighborhood.

Police located the suspect in an apartment in the 1500 block of 4th Avenue SE - near the scene of the crime. Police Lt. Mike Sadauskis says the arrest of 18 year old Liban Mohamed Ahmed was made through the help of some neighbors who identified him as one of the three men who were suspected of being involved in the incident.

Sadauskis says the victim of the crime apparently drove to the 1400 block of 4th Avenue SE last Thursday to buy some drugs from a man. The man got into the victim’s car and then two more men got into the rear seat.  One of them flashed a knife and the other held a gun to the victim’s head, demanding his money. The man was able to run away and when he came back, his car was gone. It was later located near the Eastwood Golf Course.

Ahmed was arrested around 5 p.m. Thursday - just hours after he was in court where he was sentenced for an earlier crime. He was charged with fleeing an officer last October when he refused to pull over for a routine traffic stop. He took off and ditched the car after a short pursuit but was eventually caught.
