Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Four Rochester police officers are being credited with helping save the life of a suicidal woman who was sitting on the ledge of a downtown ramp early Thursday.

Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says his department was notified about the woman by an area suicide hotline around 1:00 AM Thursday. Officers found the 51-year-old woman on the 10th-floor ledge in the southeast corner of the Damon parking ramp near the Gonda Building.

Moilanen says the officers began talking to the woman, trying to convince her to get off the ledge. When she began looking at the ground as if getting ready to jump, they were able to grab her and get her off the ledge.

Moilanen says the Rochester woman was then taken to St Marys Hospital for an evaluation. He credits the training the officers received in crisis intervention in resolving the situation.
