St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) -  A ruling issued by the Minnesota Court of Appeals in July has resulted in a reduced prison sentence for a Rochester man convicted of a brutal attack on a woman several years ago. 44-year-old Erik Harveson was originally sentenced to 17-years in prison after he was found guilty of felony assault, criminal sexual conduct and false imprisonment charges last year. The judge who handled the case had previously cut 2 years off the sentence and has now reduced his prison term to 140 months or a bit under 12-years.

The latest reduction reflects the Court of Appeals ruling that granted Narveson a new trial on the assault charge and the decision by local prosecutors not to retry him on that charge. While his sentence for the assault count was concurrent to his sexual assault conviction, the dismissal of the assault conviction lowered his criminal score for the state sentencing guidelines and reduced his recommended prison time by a little over 3-years.

Narveson was prosecuted for holding a Rochester woman against her will and repeatedly sexually assaulting her during an ordeal that lasted nearly 24 hours back in April of 2015.
