Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the men arrested following a shooting that occurred in broad daylight in Rochester earlier this year is headed to prison.

An Olmsted County Judge on Friday handed 26-year-old Abdulkadir Abukar a seven year prison sentence for his involvement in the shooting along North Broadway near the McDonald’s restaurant back in May. He was originally charged with attempted murder and second-degree assault but was allowed to enter a guilty plea to a drive-by shooting charge through a plea agreement.

Abukar and two other men were arrested after multiple shots were fired at a 36-year-old man’s car as he was trying to get away from the shooters near the McDonald’s restaurant. The victim told police he believed he was being targeted because of his role in a crime that occurred in 2009.

One of the other men charged in the case, 29-year-old Kaiser Nur, has also pleaded guilty to a drive-by shooting charge, while the case against the third suspect, 25-year-old Abdirahman Abdullahi, is still pending. Nur is scheduled to be sentenced in early December.
