Rochester City Council Ready for Vote on 2016 Levy
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) – The Rochester City Council is scheduled to adopt the 2016 preliminary property tax levy Monday.
City Administrator Steve Kvenvold is recommending the levy be set at $57 ½ million. That’s $4 million or 7 ½ percent higher than the 2015 levy.
Kvenvold says the levy would have to increase by $2 ½ million just to maintain the current level of services. He recommends $1 million of the 2016 levy be used to hire three more police officers, two more firefighters and some other positions.
The Council may consider an 8 percent increase with the extra money being targeted for street repair projects.
This year’s levy was 7 percent higher than the 2014 figure.
