Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Olmsted County was tied with Mower County for having the lowest unemployment rate in the region last month.

The latest job statistics from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development show the Rochester area’s jobless rate in August was unchanged from July at 2.8-percent, while the rate in Mower County was up a tenth of a point from the previous month. The Olmsted County rate was down two-tenths of a point from a year ago but was two-tenths above the lowest rate reported during the past year, which was 2.6-percent in December.

Most counties in the region saw slight increases in their unemployment rates last month, and only Houston County saw a decrease, with its jobless rate dropping a tenth of a point to 2.9-percent. Dodge and Freeborn Counties were tied for having the highest rates in the region at a historically low 3.5 percent.
