The unemployment rate in the Rochester area hit a nine-year low last month.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development says the jobless rate for Olmsted County dropped another 2-tenths of a point to 3-percent in September. That is nearly a full percentage point below the rate from last September. It also ties the unemployment rate from October 2005, and a review of state employment statistics shows the last time the rate dropped below 3-percent was in October 2001.

Across the region, every county reported lower jobless rates in September, and the highest rate was still found in Freeborn County at 3.7-percent.
