Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester was on the lower end of Tuesday’s snowfall forecast, with an official total of 7.4 inches at the city airport.

That just missed the record of 8 inches (1945) for the date.

Totals from across southeast Minnesota reported to the National Weather Service were in the 6 - 9-inch range. Forecasters had predicted totals of 5 -11 inches. Tuesday’s snowfall increased Rochester’s total during the current snow season to 50.6 inches, about two inches short of last year’s final number.

Cold air has returned and will linger into next week with high temperatures expected to be 10-20 degrees below average.

Slippery conditions during Tuesday’s snow event led to hundreds of traffic accidents and mishaps but no fatalities. One in south Rochester affected the morning commute. Two vehicles collided on northbound Highway 63 near 48th St around 8:00 AM. The driver of one of the vehicles was identified as 30-year-old Kelsey Shoden of Stewartville. She was taken to St Marys Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Driving conditions were still slick early Wednesday and motorists were urged to drive carefully.
