St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has announced some significant changes involving the State Park system to improve customer service.

The biggest change will be that visitors will have the ability to reserve 100 percent of the campsites at all State Parks and recreation areas. In the past, the DNR has not accepted advanced reservations for a third of the campsites, which were only available to walk-in guests on a first-come, first-served basis.

The change was implemented last year as an experiment at about a quarter of the State Parks and was met with positive responses.

Same-day reservations will also be made available at many of the state parks, eliminating a policy that cut-off reservations at midnight on the night before arrival day. The department says the new reservation system and other customer service improvements will be rolled out in early May.
