St Paul (KROC AM News) - Will they or won’t they reach a deal?  The final day of the 2017 session of the Minnesota legislature is here and there is still no word of an agreement on a new state budget.

Republicans in charge of the legislature acted on pieces of the budget over the weekend and also had meetings with Gov Dayton.

We interviewed Rep. Greg Davids Monday morning. He is chair of the House Taxes Committee and has been involved in the negotiations with Gov Dayton.

We asked him what the chances are of getting work done by the midnight deadline on a scale of 1 - 10. His answer was “ zero chance by midnight" but a “10” within 24 hours.

Davids says there is just not enough time to get the work finished by midnight. But he feels optimistic the talks with Dayton will remain positive and predicts a special session will be called sometime after midnight so the bills can be passed.

If an agreement is not reached, who knows what would happen next. The current budget expires at the end of June and unless something is worked out by then, there could be a partial government shutdown.
