Renewed Talk of a Special Session

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton plans to meet with legislative leaders this week as they try again to reach agreement on a special session.

The meeting had been planned for Thursday, but a Dayton spokesman says the meeting is now scheduled for Friday.

Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk said Wednesday he thinks he has an agreement in principle with Dayton and House Speaker Kurt Daudt "about what a special session looks like." WDIO-TV reports Bakk made his comments during a groundbreaking ceremony at the International Falls airport.

Dayton and legislative leaders have repeatedly discussed a possible overtime session to resurrect a $1 billion public construction package and a $260 million tax relief bill.

Bakk believes a special session likely would not happen until mid-August because of the upcoming political conventions.
