Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Thousands of residents in the Rochester area will take part in Tuesday’s annual National Night Out event.

The coordinator for the Rochester Police Department expects a record will be set.

Darrel Hildebrant says as of Monday afternoon, 365 events had been registered through his office. He says more than 73,500 people have been invited to attend the various events. Nearly 150 of the event organizers requested the presence of a police office so they can be thanked in person.

Hildebrant says Rochester placed 3rd in last year’s national competition with 41,800 residents pre-registered at 165 events.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says it had received  26 event notices as of Monday afternoon and 1900 people were expected to attend. One of the events is being organized for the first time by the Stewartville library.
