Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A protest is planned Thursday afternoon at the downtown Rochester Mayo Clinic campus.

It’s planned by Albert Lea area people and others who are upset about a recent clinic decision.

Mayo announced earlier this summer it had decided to relocate some of its health care services in Albert Lea to its Austin campus. Mayo says the move is necessary because of rising expenses. The affected services include labor and delivery and intensive care. Mayo plans to make the transition in October.

Thursday’s event is scheduled to begin around 2:30.

The scene could be similar to a protest last September involving dozens of Mayo food service workers. They gathered outside the Gonda Building last September to protest the clinic’s decision to transfer its food service operations to an outside vendor.
