Minneapolis, MN (MNN) – Xcel Energy company officials say power should be restored to 95 percent of the customers left without electricity by the end of the day today.

At one point, the storms that passed through Minnesota had knocked out service to 240-thousand customers. About 650 Xcel staff, contract and mutual aid workers were involved in the effort to restore service. All workers involved in the effort have been filling 16-hour shifts. Most of the areas still without power are inside the Twin Cities metro area.

A tornado touchdown has been confirmed in Carver County, causing some damage in Hollywood and Watertown Townships.
