Popular RochMN Librarian Wins National Honor for Her Youth Work!
There are only 50 librarians honored as 2018's Movers and Shakers, and for her work with the youth in our area, Rochester Public Library's Head of Youth Services Heather Acerro, is one of them and joins a select group of worldwide movers! According to Audrey Betcher, the RPL's Director, "Heather has a deep commitment and passion for reaching underserved and at-risk residents, and this shows through a number of initiatives she’s championed over the years.”
Why specifically was she honored? According to a recent press release, Heather Acerro and her team recognized a community need for LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual) safe spaces. And now they offer a wide array of programming for youth and families. These include...
- q club
- Parents Empower Pride
- Pride Prom
- Transforming Families.
Acerro is also a leader of the Neighbors Reads program and has worked hard to make sure there are mini-libraries thruout Olmsted County, as well as spearheading the development of BookBike and ArtCart.
