SAUK RAPIDS (Townsquare Media) – Two people have been killed in a two vehicle crash in Sauk Rapids. Police Chief Perry Beise says it happened at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Initial investigation indicates that a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Tom Souvannaphong was west bound on Second Street North when it struck the side of the second vehicle that had been traveling northbound on Benton Drive.

The driver and one of the the passengers in the vehicle that was hit were killed. They are both from the Hibbing area. Their names have not been released, pending notification of their family members.

A third person in that vehicle was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with what’s described as non life-threatening injuries.

Souvannaphong, was treated at the St Cloud Hospital, and arrested and placed in Benton County Jail, charges are pending. Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash.
