ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A fatal officer-involved shooting is under investigation in St. Paul.

Police were called to a neighborhood north of downtown about 3:30 a.m. Monday on a report of a man with a gun. Officers found a man matching the suspect's description walking with a woman.

Police spokesman Mike Ernster says officers confronted the man and fired a number of gunshots. Ernster did not say specifically what caused the officers to fire their weapons.

Ernster says the man died at the scene. The injured woman was taken to Regions Hospital.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
