Olmsted County Board Says Goodbye to Two Members
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Olmsted County Board held its final official meeting of the year Tuesday and after taking care of business, said farewell to two commissioners.
The board approved its 2017 property tax levy, which totals $92-million. That’s an increase of $2.3-million or 2 ½ percent from the 2016 levy. The board also approved a separate levy to fund the county’s housing program. The $1.35-million tax is the same as the 2016 total.
Also at the meeting, the commissioners approved their salaries for next year. The raise of $200 will put their annual salary at $41,000. Their expense allowance will remain at $400 per month. The board also gave raises to County Attorney Mark Ostrem and Sheriff Kevin Torgerson. Ostrem’s salary was increased $5,000 to $165,000. Torgerson was given a $4,000 raise to put his salary at $133,400.
The meeting was the final one for longtime commissioner Paul Wilson and 1st term board member Lou Ohly, who lost their reelection bids last month. Wilson had served on the board since 1994.
