Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  Olmsted County Attorney Mark Ostrem says the subject of domestic abuse was front and center in the case of a Stewartville man who was convicted Thursday of a stalking charge related to the suicide of his longtime partner.

Ostrem filed murder and manslaughter charges against Long Vang after his wife committed suicide, citing years of abuse that played a role in her death. A judge dismissed those counts but Vang was convicted of the stalking charge. Ostrem says his office will seek a 10-year prison term when Vang is sentenced.

We talked with Ostrem after the verdict and he admitted he had some very strong feelings about getting a conviction in a case involving a drawn-out and violent domestic relationship that had a very unfortunate ending - one that may have been avoided. Ostrem also talks about the seriousness of domestic abuse cases and relationships - and says there is help for those involved in one.
