Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester Police Department continues to investigate Monday's reported stabbing involving an Olmsted County employee.

Police Captain John Sherwin says 50-year-old Rick Freshwater was working alone in his office in the county building that’s located on the fairgrounds along 3rd Ave SE around 5 p.m. when he reported the incident.

Sherwin says Freshwater - an information technology worker assigned to the Emergency Operations Center who has been with the county for 25 years - has told investigators he was attacked from behind and cut 2 - 3 times with an unknown object. He was taken to St. Marys where he was treated and released.

Sherwin says Freshwater’s office is on the first floor of the building. It’s believed two other county workers were in a second floor room at the time.

Sherwin says there are surveillance cameras in the building but no recording devices.

Sherwin says at this point he is “not ruling anything out.”
