EVANSTON, Ill. (Gophersports.com AP) --  Jordan Murphy scored 14 points and Nate Mason finished with eight for Minnesota in a 82-58 defeat to Northwestern Thursday night. Tre Demps scored 23 points with eight assists and Bryant McIntosh added 20 points and six rebounds for Northwestern.

Aaron Falzon also scored 10 points for the Wildcats, (16-8, 4-7 Big Ten), who won for the first time since Jan. 12.

The Wildcats never trailed and jumped out to a quick 13-2 lead. Northwestern relied on 3-point shooting to surge ahead early, connecting on four of their first five attempts from beyond the arc. Demps and McIntosh combined for seven of the Wildcats' 12 3-point field goals.

Northwestern led 37-23 at the half. The Wildcats used an 8-0 run over the final 3:04 while Minnesota missed its final nine shots.
