Minnesota State Representative Nels Pierson talked with Rich Peterson on Rochester's Good Morning on Friday.

He talked about his tour of a few of the area townships in his district during last week's break from the Capitol, but listeners were anxious to turn his ear toward some other topics.  One caller thought the state should "get out of the golf business", referring to the possible 50 million dollars or so the state would give to Giants Ridge in northern Minnesota for a new chalet and other amenities to try and lure more people to the money-losing attraction.    The Representative simpathized with the caller, but added "one person's boondoggle is another person's economic developement".

There was frustration from one caller regarding the taxing of Military retirement benefits.  He wanted a stand-alone bill to eliminate that.  Nels said he would favor that but figured it would more likely be a part of an omnibus bill.

Check out our KROC AM Youtube channel for Nel's comments on transportation.  More than one caller thought that to be more importantant than additional projects, programs or giving the money back.

Representative Pierson and State Senator Carla Nelson are hosting a Town Hall Meeting at Dover-Eyota High School on Saturday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

Listen Monday morning for State Senator Dave Senjem at 8:15 on Rochester's Good Morning.
