Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester family returned home Tuesday night and discovered a burglar had struck earlier in the evening.

The family lives in the 2700 block of 9th Ave Lane NE and came home to find a door had been forced open. A search of the home determined the burglar had taken about $3,000 in cash, some jewelry and other items. The total loss was estimated at $6,000.

The burglar tried to take down a surveillance camera and it sustained damage but not before it recorded the break-in. A police spokesman says it did not provide a good description of the intruder, although it did show the number “56”on the sleeve of his coat.

The recording indicates the break-in occurred around 6 p.m, two hours before the family returned home.
