MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Investigators are reviewing surveillance video and cellphone records to determine whether a mother whose three children died in a fire was home when the blaze broke out.

6-year-old Latorious Thomas, 5-year-old Latoria Thomas and 23-month-old Latorianna Thomas died Oct. 3 in the fire at their north Minneapolis rental home. Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an electric stove that their mother left on to heat the house because the furnace was broken.

Investigators began to question the mother's claim that she was home when the blaze started because she wasn't injured and didn't smell like smoke.

KSTP-TV reports that investigators are looking at security footage from two north Minneapolis bars, as well as the woman's cellphone records.

Criminal charges could be filed against the mother if the investigation reveals she wasn't home.
