Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting a modest increase in flu activity over the past week.

The department’s weekly flu activity update indicates the overall activity has been upgraded from “sporadic” to “regional.” Since the start of the influenza season, the department has received 38 reports of flu-related hospitalizations, and there have been 19 reports of probable outbreaks in schools throughout Minnesota.

The report suggests the upgrade from sporadic to regional was largely due to a ramping up of the percentage of people seeking treatment at outpatient clinics who presented flu-like symptoms. Last week, that percentage had grown to nearly 3-percent.
