St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesotans with air travel plans next year have received some good news from the federal Department of Homeland Security.

The office of Governor Mark Dayton issued a statement today indicating the governor has been notified that his request for another extension of the deadline for adopting the standards of the REAL ID law has been granted. A previous extension pushed the compliance deadline into January of next year, but that has now been pushed out until October of next year, providing Minnesotans with an additional nine months they can use their regular driver’s licenses as a valid ID for boarding domestic flights.

Minnesota lawmakers earlier this year approved legislation that creates an upgraded drivers license and ID card that meet the standards of the REAL ID law, but it was unlikely the implementation could be completed by January.
