Undated (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota is listed at number two on a new ranking of the best run states in the nation.

This is the seventh year the financial news website 24/7 Wall Street has compiled the list, which is based on the state’s finances as well as various social and economic indicators.

The report says Minnesota's high-ranking is due to its low poverty rate, low unemployment rate, and relatively high median household income. 24/7 Wall Street also credited Governor Mark Dayton's decision to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act to help lower the state's uninsured rate to only 4.5 percent.

North Dakota is ranked number one for a fifth straight year, while New Mexico appears on the bottom of the rankings for the second consecutive year.

Iowa is ranked sixth and South Dakota is listed 11th, while Wisconsin is 20th. While our neighbors to the east were given high marks for fiscal responsibility, the Badger State's ranking was hurt by its declining population.
