Minnesota Monthly Job Gains Biggest in Almost 4 Years
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota’s unemployment rate was steady last month even though the state saw a net gain of more than 15,000 jobs. The seasonally-adjusted jobless rate of 3.8-percent was unchanged from March and matched the rate from April of last year.
The job gains in April were the largest in a single month in Minnesota since September 2013. Since the beginning of the year, Minnesota has seen a net gain of nearly 23,000 jobs, while the increase over the past 12 months is just shy of 35,000. That works out to a job growth rate of 1.2-percent, which trails the national rate of 1.4-percent.
The largest job gains in April were in the education and health services sectors, while big gains were also reported in the construction and government sectors. The biggest losses were found in the trade, transportation and utilities sectors, but those losses were relatively small in comparison.
The jobs report for April shows nearly all the job gains throughout the state for the past year have occurred in the Twin Cities. The Rochester area has only seen a net gain of a little more than 900 jobs during the previous 12 months, which works out to a job growth rate of only 8-tenths of a percent.
