VIRGINIA, Minn. (AP) — A man from northern Minnesota's Iron Range has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for giving his girlfriend a fatal dose of a synthetic drug.

Twenty-nine-year-old Bryan Joseph Hodapp of Gilbert was sentenced Monday in St. Louis County court in Virginia, Minnesota.

In January, a jury convicted Hodapp of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of 21-year-old Krystal Wicklund of Duluth.

Prosecutors say Hodapp gave Wicklund a dose of a drug known as N-bomb in August 2013. Wicklund began vomiting and having convulsions. She was taken to an Ely (EE'-lee) hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

WDIO-TV reports Hodapp apologized in court, telling Wicklund's family that he "never wished her harm" and that her death was an accident.
