Des Plaines, IL (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota is the snowmobile theft capital of the United States.

A new report from the Ilinois-based National Insurance Crime Bureau shows 20-percent of all snowmobile thefts in the nation from 2015 through 2017 were reported in Minnesota. The total was 314, which was over 100 higher than the total reported in Michigan, which had the second highest number of snowmobile thefts during the same time 3-year period. Wisconsin had the third highest total at 129.

The insurance industry group says there were just under 1600 snowmobile thefts reported throughout the U.S. during that time. While the vast majority of the reports were logically found in northern states, there was also a handful reported in the south, including Texas and New Mexico.
