Minnesota is home to one of the richest families in the world, who made their fortune running a popular agriculture conglomerate.

Cargill is the largest closely owned company in the U.S, meaning none of their shares are traded publicly. Their total worth of 42.3 billion is run by the family itself, and because of this, the Cargill and MacMillan family is the 9th richest in the world according to Bloomberg.

If Cargill was a public company in 2015, it would rank 15th on the Fortune 500 list, which shows just how much money the family has. The richest 25 families in the world control $1.1 trillion of the wealth in the world.

Cargill was founded way back in 1865, when founder William Cargill started the company with one grain storage warehouse in Conover, Iowa. It has now turned into a multi-million dollar business that employs 155,000 people across 70 countries.

The company is a huge player in the agricultural world and has been for over 150 years. In 2017, they had $109.7 billion in sales and other revenues, so you can expect this family will remain on this list for a long, long time.
