If you traveled over the Thanksgiving holiday, you know the price of gas was up compared to last year, and they don't expect that to change in December.

Right now, the National gas price average is 38 cents more than we saw a year ago, according to AAA.

AAA did say that they expect gas prices to drop as the year comes to a close, motorist should expect to pay the highest at the pump since 2014. Generally, this time of year we tend to see gas prices dip, but with two major hurricanes and steady consumer demand, we have seen the prices go up.

“Driving factors for cheaper gas prices this winter include colder temperatures, the threat of inclement weather and online shopping," said AAA spokesperson Jeanette Casselano.

Right now, the statewide average in Minnesota is $2.47, but this time last year, we were under $2 a gallon. Year to date, Minnesota finds themselves at $2.32 per gallon, with 26% of the gas stations selling at over $2.51 per gallon.

So, if you find yourself travelling this holiday season, don't expect to get that gift at the pump. You'll have to search for it somewhere else!
