Washington, DC (Learfield Wire Services) -   Sun Country Airlines will soon provide nonstop flights from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to two cities in Cuba.

The airline based in the Twin Cities was among six that were given approval for Cuban flights by the US Transportation Department. Agency Secretary Anthony Foxx says the government is keeping President Barack Obama's promise from last year to "begin a new journey with the Cuban people." Sun Country says it will fly to both Santa Clara and Matanzas in Cuba, and it's still working on a timetable to start the new service. The airlines have 90 days to get flights started, although they can get extensions.
