A new report has Minnesota ranked fourth on the list of the states that are least dependent on the federal government. The website WalletHub based the rankings on four key metrics:

  1. the return on taxes paid to the federal government
  2. federal funding as a percentage of state revenue
  3. the number of federal employees per capita
  4. the number of civilian non-defense federal employees per capita.

New Jersey was ranked as the least dependent on the federal government, while New Mexico was listed as the most dependent.
