MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minneapolis VA Medical Center says it plans to resume surgeries Friday.

The hospital posted a number of surgical procedures earlier this week after an "''unidentified substance" was discovered in the sterilizing equipment.

The Minneapolis VA said Thursday the material was found to be residual cleaning product that had not been fully rinsed. The VA says the sterilizers have been inspected and certified as ready to use by the manufacturer.

The medical center says it is reviewing its process to make sure cleaning products are fully rinsed according to manufacturer standards.

The VA calls it a one-time event and says patients were never at risk.
