Minneapolis Cop Pleads Not Guilty In Alleged Theft

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Minneapolis police officer has pleaded not guilty to federal charges accusing him and his father of defrauding a now-closed nonprofit group.

Jordan Davis was conditionally released on $25,000 bond after his initial hearing in federal court Friday.

His attorney, Frederic Bruno, says Davis has been placed on paid administrative leave. In the meantime, he is prohibited from carrying firearms.

Davis and his father, William Davis, were indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury for allegedly misusing $250,000 in taxpayer money received by Community Action of Minneapolis. William Davis took over the nonprofit in 1990. The organization provided heating and weatherization assistance to low-income Minneapolis residents.

William Davis is due in court Monday. His attorney says the elder Davis also will plead not guilty.
