MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis police say a 5-year-old boy who was trick-or-treating on Halloween has died after he was struck by a car while crossing a street.

Officers were called to the crash in north Minneapolis around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police found the boy in critical condition. A preliminary investigation shows the boy was hit by the car as he crossed Victory Memorial Parkway, then became trapped under the car.

Police say the boy was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His name was not immediately released.

Police spokesman John Elder tells the Star Tribune that adults were with the boy, who was out trick-or-treating.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. Police say the driver stopped and is cooperating with investigators.
