CROOKSTON, Minn. (AP) — A 23-year-old man is charged with attempted murder for a shootout with police in northwestern Minnesota.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says Michael Jon Perry of Crookston is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer.

Perry appeared in court Friday. Unconditional bail was set at $1 million cash.

Two Polk County sheriff's officers weren't hurt when bullets either struck or grazed the backs of their bullet-resistant vests during Thursday's shooting. Officers were answering a 911 call about shots fired near Crookston.

The BCA says Perry began firing at deputies from inside the house and continued to fire as he emerged. He tried to drive away but was stopped.

Nine officers fired their weapons. Perry was treated for a gunshot wound and is in jail.
