Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A Rochester School District teacher is being recognized for excellence in music education.

The Southeastern Minnesota Youth Orchestras has announced Laurie Ringen has been chosen to receive the Bravura Award. A group of peers selected her to be honored for inspiring student excellence through music education. The Friedell Middle School orchestra teacher will be formally presented with the award during an event at the Plummer House Friday evening.

Ringen is a Rochester native and graduate of Mayo High School. She received a degree in music education from Luther College in 2005.

The event on Friday is a fundraiser for SEMYO.  It’s Instrumental – An evening of chamber music at the Plummer House, will run from 6-9 p.m. Details and tickets at www.semyo.org/its-instrumental.
