Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Traffic accidents around Minnesota since the beginning of the Labor Day weekend have claimed at least five lives.

One of the fatal wrecks happened in northeast Olmsted County around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The Olmsted County Sheriff’s office says the head-on wreck happened in the 5400 block of Silver Creek Road NE. A spokesman says one adult died at the scene and two others were taken to St. Mary’s.  No names have been released yet.

Three more Minnesota motorcyclists have been killed in weekend wrecks. Ironically, one of the victims died while taking part in a fundraiser for the family of a motorcyclist who was killed in June. The Minnesota State Patrol says the driver of an SUV overcorrected and hit two motorcycles head-on in Oakdale Saturday afternoon. The victim was 49 year old Tonia Stocking of Cottage Grove. She was a passenger on a motorcycle.  The driver of the bike was seriously injured. The passenger of the other motorcycle suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The most recent incident involved a motorcyclist who was killed around 12:45 p.m. Monday in Aitkin County. The State Patrol says 29 year old Adam Michalski of Clearwater was driving south in the northbound  lane of Highway 169 near Garrison when he collided head-on with an SUV. One person in the other vehicle suffered serious injuries.

The other motorcyclist who was killed was driving in a closed off construction zone in the Stillwater area Sunday when he ran into a piece of equipment. The State Patrol says the 39 year old Brooklyn Park man died at the scene of the 6 p.m. wreck. The Patrol says alcohol was detected in his system.

A 79 year old St. Cloud woman was killed Sunday afternoon when the vehicle her 81 year old husband was driving was hit broadside in the Milaca area. The State Patrol says her husband pulled in front of the other vehicle on Highway 169 and his vehicle rolled after it was hit.
