Caledonia, MN  (KROC AM News) - A La Crescent man was arraigned on four felony assault charges Wednesday in connection to a shooting of a friend Monday night.

The criminal complaint says the shooting victim was visiting 38-year-old Robert Albrecht when he began talking about suicide and took out a .45-caliber handgun. The victim says Albrecht began waving the gun and pointed it at him several times. The victim says he asked Albrecht to stop and when he refused, he decided to leave. That’s when he was shot in the abdomen from a distance of two feet.

The victim called 911 and was taken to a La Crosse hospital. No word yet on his medical condition.

Albrecht cooperated with investigators, saying he did not know the gun’s safety was off and that the shooting was an accident. He also admitted he had been drinking. A breath test showed he had a blood/alcohol concentration of .2.

Conditional bail was set at $100,000 during Albrecht’s arraignment and he was ordered back to court for another hearing on Monday.
