KROC-AM political commentator Tom Ostrom is in Washington D.C. this week to participate in the official celebration of the 225th anniversary of the formation of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Ostrom, who served in the Coast Guard from 1961 through 1969, has written four books on the history and missions of the Coast Guard since retiring from Rochester Community and Technical College.

As part of the commemoration of the Coast Guard's birthday, Ostrom is scheduled to give a presentation at the United States Naval Memorial Tuesday afternoon. He'll be speaking about his most recent book, United States Coast Guard Leaders and Missions, 1790 to the Presentwhich provides a history of the Coast Guard with a focus on the commanders of the service since its founding in 1790.
