Eden Prairie, MN (KROC-AM News) -  Minnesota Vikings announced Wednesday that Eric Kendricks has been honored by the NFL as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

The team's website says the second year linebacker from UCLA intercepted a pass and ran 77 yards for his first career touchdown during the Vikings victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Vikings also noted Kendricks had seven tackles in the 26-15 win to open the 2016-2017 NFL season.

His interception for a touchdown, along with the 24 yard fumble return for a touchdown by Danielle Hunter marked only the sixth time in franchise history the Vikings scored touchdowns on both an interception and fumble return in the same game.

Kendrick is the eighth Viking player to earn an NFC Player of the Week honor under Coach Mike Zimmer.

The Vikings will play their first regular season game at the new US Bank Stadium Sunday night as they host the Green Bay Packers.
