Wabasha, MN (KROC AM News) - A fatal traffic wreck earlier this month that killed an Eyota man has resulted in criminal charges.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 34-year-old Christopher Nelson was killed October 3rd when his motorcycle collided head-on with an SUV that was in his lane. The wreck happened on Highway 42.

The SUV was driven by 35-year-old Josh Hansen of rural Kellogg. Hansen was treated for non-life threatening injuries and the arresting officer suspected he had been drinking. Hansen is now charged with criminal vehicular homicide. He is also charged with spitting into the face of the officer.

It’s suspected Hansen had been involved in a hit-and-run in Elgin just before the deadly crash. There was also a report of his vehicle driving through a corn field in the Plainview area.

Authorities say Hansen was convicted of two earlier DUI cases.
