The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says the worldwide combined land and ocean surface temperature

for June was the highest ever recorded for the month at more than a degree above the 20th century average. NOAA also notes the average combined temperature for the first half of this year tied with 2002 as the third warmest on record.

In the U.S., the increase was only .1 degree F, compared with the average temperature for the 20th century. The report also shows recorded temperatures in the U.S. for the first half of 2014 are the coldest since 1993, although record warmth was noted in western parts of the country, especially California.
