DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — The head of Cliffs Natural Resources says idled United Taconite in Eveleth and Forbes will restart in mid-October.

Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves says operations should be up to full production in November.

WDIO-TV reports the company has reached a 10-year supply agreement with steelmaker ArcelorMittal. Goncalves has said reopening United Taconite hinged on the agreement. Cliffs plans to invest $65 million in the plant so it can produce a higher-grade of pellets.

The plant in Forbes and the mine in Eveleth were idled in August, putting nearly 500 people out of work.

Union leaders say they are pleased to hear that United Taconite will resume production.
