Fiedler sets team high for strikeouts as Honkers sweep Anchors

Rochester, Minn. (rochesterhonkers.com) -- The Rochester Honkers defeated the Alexandria Blue Anchors 6-2 in seven innings in game two of Friday night's doubleheader. Patrick Duester (Tulane) got his first win as a Honker. The win completed the sweep of the doubleheader and moved the Honkers to 11-5 on the year.

The Honkers struck first, with Sam Hall (Dixie State) getting a two RBI single in the bottom of the second  as the Blue Anchor infield let a pop-up drop in the grass behind the mound.

Alexandria responded with runs off Matt Fiedler (Minnesota) in the fourth and fifth innings after he started his night with three scoreless innings, ending his first start for the Honkers. In his 5 innings, he set the new team high for strikeouts in a game this season with eight. The previous high was six, set by both Greg Jakusik (Stevens Institute) and Tyler Feyereisen (St. Thomas).

Rochester took the lead back when Joe DeRoche-Duffin (UCONN) scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. That score was the start of a big inning for the Honkers, as they racked up 4 runs on a number of Blue Anchor miscues.

The Rochester Honkers defeated the Alexandria Blue Anchors 5-4 in the forst game of the twin bill. Colby Green (Triton CC) earned the win for the Honkers, moving him to 2-0 on the year, while Graylon Brown (Angelo State) took the loss for Alexandria. Spencer Greer (Dixie State) got his third save of the season for Rochester.

Alex Schultz (Nebraska-Omaha) lead the way for the Honkers offensively with one hit, one run scored, and two RBIs.

With the game tied 4-4 after three innings, the two teams played scoreless ball untl the bottom of the sixth, when Cole Krzmarzick (Nevada) brought Schultz in on a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Honkers take on the Duluth Huskies Saturday night at 7:05 at Mayo Field. A High School Pizza Eating contest with be part of the Pizza Games, sponsored by Holiday Stationstores and106.9 KROC.
