(Rochester, Minn.) – Ricky Delgado (UC Riverside) threw seven scoreless innings in his first start of the season to lead the Honkers to a 3-0 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats Thursday night at Mayo Field.

The Honkers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Kyle Kasser (Oregon) hit drove in a run on a fielder’s choice to score Casey Worden (UC Riverside).

In the fourth, Jacob Thomas (UC Davis) hit a RBI double to score Alex Fitchett (Hawaii), and then Kasser hit a sacrifice fly to score Thomas to give the Honkers a 3-0 lead.

Delgado (1-3) got the start and the win for the Honkers. The righty threw seven scoreless innings, allowed four hits and struck out four. Sam Bjorngjeld (1) (Tulane) collected his first save of the season by throw two scoreless innings in relief.

Brandon Langan (1-7) (New Mexico) got the start and the loss for Thunder Bay; he allowed three runs, two of them earned, on 11 hits over six innings and struck out five. Seth Gill (Tarleton State University) threw the final two innings of relief; he walked three and struck out three.

Kasser went 2-for-3 and Thomas went 2-for-4 to lead the Honkers. Kasser added two RBI, while Thomas had one RBI and one run scored.

Anthony Brocato (St John’s University) went 2-for-4 and Bobby Honeyman (Stony Brook) went 2-for-3 to lead the Border Cats.

Friday, the Honkers will take on the same Border Cats tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Mayo Field.
