Duluth scores 2 in 9th to top Honkers

Rochester Minn.(rochesterhonkers.com) -- The Rochester Honkers fell to the Duluth Huskies 4-3 Saturday night after holding a one-run lead going into the ninth inning. C.J. Santoyo was charged with the loss after allowing 2 earned runs in the ninth inning. Riley Gates (BYU) earned the win for Duluth, while Austin Carpenter (North Alabama) was credited with the save. Honkers starter Tyler Feyereisen (St. Thomas) threw seven innings, allowing two earned runs, good for a 1.27 ERA.

The Huskies held the early advantage after plating a run in each the second and fourth innings. 

The Honkers finally found some life in the bottom of the sixth,.  Joe DeRoche-Duffin (UCONN)  hit an RBI double to the wall in right field and brought in leadoff man Miles Mastrobuoni (College of San Mateo) to start the rally. Alex Schultz (Nebraska-Omaha) scored on a wild pitch later in the same inning to even the score at 2-all.

Rochester took the lead when Brad Mathiowetz (DMACC) singled and brought Duffin home from third to cap the Honkers scoring. 

The lead held into the top of the ninth, when Duluth scored 2 runs on Santoyo. In the final half inning, the Honkers got runners on second and third with two outs, but could not get the hit needed to bring the tying run.

Rochester and Duluth will faceoff again Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Gates will open at noon. It will be Darrell Thompson Day, as well as a Perkins Kids Club Day. Kids will; be able to eat for free on the Sports Deck and run the bases after the game. I Bike/Walk Rochester, presented by Olmstead County Public Health, will allow you to get a free ticket for every person in your car, up to four, if you park and walk to Mayo Field from the designated parking lot on 4th Street, across from the Holiday Gas Station. Anyone who rides their bicycle to the game will also recieve one free admission.
