INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) — Police in Inver Grove Heights say a suspect has been arrested in a weekend hit-and-run that and killed a 55-year-old woman.

The Inver Grove Heights Police Department says a 30-year-old woman from Inver Grove Heights turned herself in Sunday after seeing a social media post about the crash.

The woman was booked and released to her attorney while police continue investigating.

Police say the victim, Haimanot Gebremedhin of Inver Grove Heights, was found by a passer-by who flagged down a police officer just before 6 p.m. Saturday. Responders tried to revive the victim, but she died.

Once police conclude their investigation, the case will be turned over to the Dakota County Attorney's office for a charging decision.

Authorities say the victim was struck on 80th Street, east of Blaine Avenue. Anyone who was driving in that area around the time of the crash is asked to call the Inver Grove Heights Police Department.

The Minnesota State Patrol is helping to reconstruct the collision.
